Pilot Training Videos Offered on SocialFlight App

Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP)

App offers pilot training videos in addition to restaurant recommendations

I recently heard about the SocialFlight mobile app and its intent to share aviation events with pilots looking for things to do on a layover. Most of us must rely on word-of-mouth advertising to find those little gems scattered around the country at airports off the beaten path. There’s more to see on SocialFlight, including safety-related pilot training videos.

The free app started as a social guide for pilots, offering help for pilots looking for aviation events, restaurants, and exciting places to fly. While that is a helpful reference for pilots looking to have some fun with their airplanes, the SocialFlight team must have realized more they could do for their fellow aviators and decided to get involved with safety-related pilot training.

The company recently launched a new FAA learning system that is rapidly growing. They joined the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) to develop a no-cost, on-demand video education system for pilots, A&P/IA’s, and other aviation maintenance technicians (AMT).

The videos qualify for the WINGS Proficiency Program and the FAA’s AMT Awards. In addition to the FAA-accredited educational videos, the app includes content-based quizzes and links to related reference materials. When a pilot completes a training program, the SocialFlight system automatically updates the user’s FAA safety account to count toward their program goals.

For IA refresher training, the system will issue a certificate of completion that the mechanic can submit to the FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) and their Inspection Authorization renewal application.

The company is continuing to increase its safety impact within the aviation community by quickly adding pilot training videos that are both interesting and timely. And let’s not forget the restaurant recommendations!
